Running bra buying guide for bigger boobs
First of all, check out our running bra buying guide for some top tips on what to look for generally in a running bra.
Then, there are a few extra things to bear in mind if our boobs need a little more support.
Experts recommend that those of us with larger busts look for the following:
- molded cups
These will encapsulate and compartmentalize each breast, controlling movement across all three planes of the body (up and down, in and out and side to side) - a high neckline
This will ensure breast tissue is fully encased within the cups in order to minimize upward bounce - the wide underband
Having extra width will offer more support and stability as we run.

MAAREE Solidarity High Impact Sports Bra
MAAREE Solidarity High Impact Sports Bra technical details
Style: Adjustable according to preference
Sizes: 28DD – 38H
Price: £68
Why we loved it:
- Overband technology is great for reducing upward momentum
- Adjustable to be racerback for more support
- Good sizing options and free online bra fitting
Why we didn’t
What our testers said
MAAREE sports bras are hard to beat, and this high-impact design is no exception. It’s a hybrid design between compression and encapsulation, which I was worried would mean that it didn’t do either well: I was wrong, and it felt really supportive. The attention to detail is excellent, with multiple adjustable straps and that innovative Overband. It reduced a huge amount of upward movement as I ran thanks to the stiffer fabric on the front, so there were no embarrassing boob grabs while running downhill (we’ve all been there, haven’t we?). Most importantly, the sizing is great for bigger-boobed women. This is bra designed by someone who really knows what it’s like to run with boobs.
PeBe Impact Sports Bra
PeBe Impact Sports Bra technical details
Style: Adjustable according to preference
Sizes: 30D-38XL
Price: £65
Why we loved it:
- Figure of eight contour layer gives great support
- No underwiring
- No crushing or compression
Why we didn’t:
- Stiffer fabric might not be for everyone
What our testers said
The figure of eight contour layer is brilliant at reducing bounce – not just from underneath but from over the top of the boobs, too. I felt supported all the way through my run, even when running down hills and steps and while doing some high knees to warm up. It’s up there with the most secure I’ve felt in the boob department, I’d say!

Runnerwear Power Running Bra
RUDERWEAR Power Running Bra technical details
Style: H-back
Sizes: 28D – 40H
Cups: built-in and molded
Adjustable straps? yes
Price: £60
why we loved it
- Double hook-and-eye closure adds lots of support
- Easy to get on and off
- Extra wide underband is really comfortable and supportive
Why we didn’t
- Can be tricky to get both of the closures done up
- Padding can’t be removed, which might not suit all runners
What our testers said
This bra is so great! The fabric is soft and moisture-wicking, and the padded straps are comfy as is the wide, elasticated under-band which holds the bra in place during movement and reduces risk of rubbing. I really noticed that the molded cups controlled movement, reducing bounce without leaving me feeling constricted. It really does the job for those of us with bigger boobs.
MAAREE Battle Bra
MAAREE Battle Bra technical details
Style: H-back, with racerback option
Sizes: 30-38 CG
Cups: Encapsulated
Adjustable straps? yes
Price: £76
why we loved it
- Overband technology along with clever molded cups that give incredible security
- minimal bounce
- Soft, pillowy and seamless
Why we didn’t
- Pricey
- Underwiring might not be for everyone
What our testers said
Running down steps and hills was an absolute breeze, and I could barely feel any bounce whatsoever. The overband makes all the difference, and works to cleverly reduce upward movement, whilst the encapsulation works with the natural figure-of-eight movement of a breast to limit bounce even further. The result, I would be so bold as to say, is the best support I’ve ever had in a running bra. I’m pleased to report that, as I clock up those miles, I still don’t experience any chafing from the seams or poking from the underwire.

Anita Active Extreme Control Bra
ANITA Active Extreme Control Bra technical details
Style: H-back
Sizes: 30-46 BH
Cups: Tailored
Adjustable straps? yes
Price: £54
why we loved it
- A 4 hook-and-eye closure made us feel super-safe and supported
- Side sling design kept side boob under control
- Seamless and towel-like inside for minimal chafing
Why we didn’t
- Can be hard to get all four eyelets to shut
- Not quite as flattering as some of the other bras without a top on
What our testers said
As soon as you put this sports bra on you will not want to take it off! The bra is true to size and you should find it’s a perfect fit, thanks to the adjustable shoulder straps. The fabric is great quality and it washes and dries with ease. The inner fabric of the cup is like toweling and keeps the skin wonderfully dry and odor free even after a long run. The back strap is made of a mesh that is breathable and has great stretch, allowing for a comfy fit with no chafe or rub. The shoulder straps are pleasantly shaped, thickening on the shoulder for maximum support without the feeling of digging into the skin; this is especially welcome for those of us with bigger boobs. Bounce is also super minimal on all runs. Winner!
POUR MOI Energy Underwired Sports Bra
POUR MOI Energy Underwired Sports Bra technical details
Style: Underwired adjustable back
Sizes: 32-36CH
Cups: Built-in, mouldable
Adjustable straps? yes
Price: £28
why we loved it
- Great budget option
- Really comfortable
- Bigger cup design made everything feel secure
Why we didn’t
- Underwire may be uncomfortable for some
What our testers said
This bra feels cozy and secure from the moment you put it on. I actually forgot I was wearing a bra by time I got to the start of my running route! It’s lightly padded and underwired, which I don’t usually like but this was really comfortable. A soft internal fabric ensures no chafing and the wide elastic underband feels smooth and stays in place. You can convert it into a racer back with the J-hook, which offered extra support for my bigger boobs.
Boobuddy Breast Support Band
Boobuddy technical details
why we loved it
- Great option for bigger busts who need a bit more bounce control
- Adjustable to help with the perfect fit
Why we didn’t
- Might not be suited to all boob shapes
- Needs a few test runs to find the right fit
- Needs to be hand-washed
What our testers said
Not technically a running bra, but worthy of our list. All too often, sports bras provide uplift without any compression from the top. The Boobuddy is here to solve that. You can wear this band over or under your normal sports or running bra and it provides you with so much more support. There are three band sizes, and all have an adjustable back designed to work for any bust size. I’d give it a quick test in the safety of your own home before heading out, as I underestimated how much support I needed and had to readjust behind a tree (embarrassing), but now it’s become a wardrobe staple that I’d recommend to any bigger-boobed runner.
