Run 5K and donate £5 for World Hunger Day 2023 on May 28th

Women’s Running are fundraising for the Trussell Trust, and we’d love you to help. May 28th marks World Hunger Day, and on that day each of us on the team is going to run 5K and donate £5. Please join us across the UK, and show your support by donating just £5. Your £5 could make all the difference to a family in crisis.

Tick off 5K, and donate £5 – it’s that easy.

If you’d like, you can take a selfie (or take a pic of a beautiful view, or a cute dog, we don’t mind!), pop it on Instagram, and tag @womensrunninguk and @trusselltrust. We would love to see your runs!

The Trussell Trust, which supports more than 1,300 food bank centres, says the cost of living emergency has created a ‘tsunami of need’, as people struggle to survive amidst the soaring costs of living.

Our parent company, Anthem, has chosen to support the Trussell Trust throughout 2023, and has pledged to match donations up to £10,000.

The Trussell Trust’s vision is for a UK without the need for food banks. That’s why we are supporting them in working towards a compassionate future, where no one should have to use a food bank to get by.

Over the last six months, 320,000 people have been forced to turn to food banks in the Trussell Trust network for the first time. Furthermore, 1.3m emergency food parcels were provided to people between April and September 2022 by food banks in the charity’s UK network, and almost half a million of these went to children.

Over the last few years, the charity’s network of food banks has seen how the right support, at the right time, can help people out of hardship.

World Hunger Day

May 28th is World Hunger Day, a day that highlights inequalities and the desperate need for support that exists globally, with up to 811 million people chronically hungry.

So this World Hunger Day, we’d love you all to join us in a run: we’re going to bash out 5K, but you can do any distance you feel comfortable with. Run an ultra and tell us all about it! And when you get back home, don’t forget to donate a fiver and leave us a little message too, if you’d like.

Together, we think we can make a big difference to people’s lives, to help support them out of hardship, and to show the UK just how strong and wonderful the running community can be.

The Trussell Trust is a registered charity in England and Wales (number 1110522) and registered in Scotland (number SC044246).
