First introduced in 2019 as a limited run, the Cane Creek Works Series Helm was kinda like a Helm SL, knocking 100g off the original. And now it’s back with another limited run, but this time in a gloss black with gold graphics.
The 2023 Works Series Helm is the same as before, and uses the same damper as the Helm MKII, but with shorter stanchions optimized for the 130mm travel factory setting.
The standard Helm MKII can be user-adjusted from 130mm to 160mm with 10mm internal spacers. The Works Series drops that range to 100mm to 130mm, and makes a few tweaks to the crown and lowers to shave a few more grams.
It has their dual air spring, where you set the positive chamber based on body weight, then manually equalize the negative chamber. It’s a unique system that can takes only slightly more effort to get the sag where you want it (compared to competitor’s single-air systems), but it’s effective and worth the effort.
External controls include high/low speed compression and low-speed rebound.
Claimed weight is 1,999g with axle, MSRP is $1,099 while they last. Available in 29er only, with 44mm offset.
Cane Creek Faceplate Computer Mount
Putting those CNC machines to use, Cane Creek has just added a jewel of an out-front mount that attaches to your stem’s faceplate with extended bolts. It’s machined from 6061 aluminum with black stainless steel mounting bolts.
Using slotted bolt holes, it fits stems with bolt centers ranging from 22-35mm. It can mount to the top or bottom stem bolts, and its angled body can be mounted up or down, providing four total starting positions.
Then, the computer and accessory mount slides fore-aft, and the arm can angle up or down, letting you customize your cycling computer’s position.
The mount weighs 40g, retails for $79.99, and includes pucks for Garmin and Wahoo. A two-prong accessory mount is available separately and fits GoPro-mount compatible devices like, say, a GoPro. Or a light. The accessory adds 11g and $19.99 to the total.
