Since it’s inception, Breadwinner Cycles has been all about custom steel bikes, from their B-Road gravel bike to the Lola road bike. And they’ve done some very cool custom bikes and inspired finishes.
Now, they’re launching the A-Road, their first stock-sized model, and it’s an all-road bike that splits the difference between their road and gravel bikes.
Founder Tony Pereira says the geometry is a mashup of averaging all of the custom builds they’ve ever done and comparing that to what all the other key brands are putting out there, and designed something that gives it the right handling and performance for an all -around, all-road bike.
Most custom builders are quick to acknowledge that a well-designed stock bike will work great for 90% of riders, and Breadwinner has high hopes for the new A-Road to give a lot more riders their signature style, but quicker and more affordably.
Pereira adds “The way most people are using a gravel bike, the A-Road is the perfect bike for them. Stays are a little tighter, it looks and rides faster, is super fun, but without being overkill.”
The frame is made of Columbus Spirit steel tubing with Paragon stainless steel thru axle dropouts, and is paired with an ENVE AR carbon fork.
The cables, wires, etc., run inside the downtube, and it’s sold with electronic groups only, so with Di2 the wire will hide inside the seat tube and chainstay. It’s running a T47 bottom bracket, and has three bottle cage mounts (one under the downtube).
The frame clears 700×40 tires, or add fenders to the mounts and run 32mm tires.
The bikes are still made to order, but stock sizing lets them keep tubes pre-cut and at the ready. Most frames are made the week following an order, then sent off for paint. Choose from stock color finishes, or go custom for a bit more. Complete bikes start at $6,790 and are delivered in six weeks or less.
